MEDINA, Tenn. – South Gibson is playing with a chip on their shoulder. Starting off the season 4-0 isn’t enough for the Hornets. “We still have a lot to prove,” senior Jordan Lambert said. The Hornets’ season is already a success compared to 2014, when the team only won two games. “We weren’t a bad team last year,” Lambert said. “We’re just making sure we’re getting w’s this year.” “You get what you give, and things we did in the off-season are paying off real good,” fellow classmate Stephen Mendez said. Ask their head coach what their record is this season, he wont tell you 4-0. “We’re done with non-region. We’re 1-0,” Scott Stidham said. “Everybody is still in it right now.” Only the top four teams can survive the Hornets eight-team region that features JCM, South Side, Liberty Tech, Dyersburg, McNairy Central, Westview and Milan. Heading into Week five, South Gibson is in a four-way tie for first place. Stidham says the Hornets have to improve. “We’re going to have our hands full. We’re going to have to play better than we have in order to beat them,” Stidham said about McNairy Central. South Gibson is excited about the chance of going 5-0. “This year is all in,” Lambert said. “We always going hard in practice. Everyone is getting reps in the weight room.”
