SAVANNAH, Tenn. — National Drug Take Back Day is a day where you can drop off your old or unused prescription medications to have them disposed of in a safe way. The Savannah Police Department hosted their first drop off event from 10 AM until 2 PM Saturday afternoon.

Chief Gary Will Jr. said they had a bigger turnout than they were expecting and is glad so many people made the effort to keep their community safe. “The whole purpose is three-fold: one, to keep it out of the water supply, keep it out of the food supply for animals which is what happens when you throw it in the dump, or keep it from being stolen and then illegally used,” Chief Will said. More than 21 pounds was collected Saturday. The Savannah Police Department also has a drop off box for unused medicine in their front lobby. You can drop them off Monday through Friday from 8-4:30.
