Monument to honor nearly 6000 Mississippians at Shiloh
CORINTH, Miss. (AP) – The only southern state without a monument to soldiers who fought in the Battle of Shiloh is changing that.
On Saturday, the Mississippi Veterans Monument Commission will dedicate its memorial to nearly 6,000 soldiers who fought in the battle and turn it over to the National Park Service.
Shiloh National Military Park Superintendent Dale Wilkerson tells the Daily Corinthian (http://bit.ly/1Z1g437 ) that the Mississippi monument will enhance the park in Tennessee.
Wilkerson says 15 states have monuments to soldiers who fought in the battle.
The sculptor is Dr. J. Kim Sessums, who also created the African-American Monument at Vicksburg National Military Park in Mississippi.
