Memphis attorney faces forgery, theft charges
MEMPHIS, Tenn. — The Tennessee Bureau of Investigations has charged a Memphis attorney accused of forging signatures and stealing settlement money intended for at least two clients.
According to officials, an investigation began May 4 where investigators developed information that 54-year-old George Skouteris forged signatures on at least two settlement agreements and two checks in an effort to deposit funds into his own bank account, intended for at least two clients. The Tennessee Board of Professional Responsibility disbarred Skouteris earlier this year, according to a press release.
According to the release, Skouteris has been charged with two counts of Theft Over $1,000 and two counts of Forgery.
Skouteris was booked into the Shelby County Jail after turning himself into the Shelby County Sheriff’s Fugitive Office, according to officials. At the time of the release, his bond amount had not been set.
The release states the investigation is ongoing, with the possibility of additional victims and charges.
