Annual Mudfest remembers Noah Chamberlin
SOUTH JACKSON– For nearly a decade, our community has come together to raise money and get a little muddy. So despite a few showers in the forecast hundreds traveled down to South Jackson for a good time at the 9th Annual Mudfest.
“Get in mud, getting muddy that what its all about,” said participant David Bly.
Mud, four wheelers and family fun is exactly what Mudfest provides every year.
“I got my grand-kids out here, they love this little pond right here, jumping off in it,” said Marilyn Garner. “I think its awesome.”
All day long adults and even kids enjoyed fun in the sun, and of course the mud for a good cause.
“The kids just want to get out here and slip and slide and it just evolved from that,” said Mudfest founder Donnie Matthews. “Just a good time, this is all in the memory of Noah. It’s benefiting the Finger Fire Department and that what the family has asked us to give the proceeds to.”
Mudfest 2016 was held in memory of little Noah Chamberlin who went missing in January, his body found a week later. All donations collected at Mudfest will be given to the Finger Fire Department, who helped in the search for the 2-year-old.
“Shows you how compassionate some of these people are, that we can come out here raise money for something and have a good time,” said participant Jonathan Smith.
Although Mudfest is about raising money and bringing our community together, the goal for folks here is to also have a good time.
“It’s just great for the kids and its for a good cause,” said Bly. “When it’s for a good cause that what you come out for.”
“Everybody will have fun together,” said Smith. “Even if you don’t have something to ride, somebody ‘hey you wanna ride? Lets go!”
If Mudfest is something you have never experienced, attendees say you’re missing out.
“I think they are missing a really fun time, if you’ve got children especially, but not only that there’s good food to eat and everything you purchase goes towards a good cause.” said Garner
Organizers said the possibility of rain wasn’t going to postpone this years Mudfest. In fact they said rain just meant there would be even more mud to play in.
This years Mudfest also included a barbecue contest, catching a muddy pig and karaoke.
