2016 graduates of the WestStar Leadership Class celebrated

JACKSON, Tenn. — Members of the 2016 WestStar Leadership class gathered at the DoubleTree Hotel in Jackson, Tuesday, to celebrate their accomplishments.  Not even a fire alarm at the start of the program could derail the evening.  Luckily, it was a false alarm and the ceremony was able to continue after a few minutes.

The WestStar Leadership Program is in its twenty-seventh year and has 739 graduates, most of whom are from West Tennessee.  The 2016 class included 30 participants who were competitively selected to learn new leadership skills and develop strategies for assisting communities in solving problems and maximizing potential.

Among the graduates, Covington Mayor Justin Hanson  who said the personal connections made through the program are invaluable.  “It stretches from the Tennessee River to the Mississippi River, hundreds of alumni you can call on anytime for help or guidance.” he explained.  “That’s what makes WestStar so special.”

The University of Tennessee at Martin sponsors the WestStar Program.
