Current
It was an extremely hot, humid and damp day outside today! Heat indices reached triple digit temperatures all across the state. There also were a few thunderstorms and heavier rain showers that popped up along the eastern half of West TN. We do have high humidity levels making it feel very sticky and heavy outside and unfortunately that will last through the night and into tomorrow. We have some clouds that are hanging around giving us breaks here and there from the intense sunshine. Some are also producing those pop-up showers and thunderstorms. Overnight we could see some more clearing of those clouds giving us a better chance to see some more sunshine for the start of Sunday.
Today
West Tennessee does have a 30% chance of rain or thunderstorms today because of a frontal system that is now swinging its way back north east. For the most part this is going to cause a few showers and a possible thunderstorm here and there. The temperatures are the main concern today. The high in Jackson is 92° but the heat indices could reach triple digits in some areas. With humidity levels also being high, it is going to be a significant muggy and sticky day to start the weekend.
Tomorrow
Sunday isn’t looking much different than Saturday’s forecast, minus a smaller chance for precipitation or thunderstorms. The temperature may even heat up a little more than it will on Saturday, also making the heat index very hot. Sunday will bring us a better chance to have more sunshine, but just like Saturday, those humidity percentages won’t budge so it will most likely be another stifling, damp day.
Rest of the Week
The next best chance for widespread rain will come Monday when a stronger cold front than the one we saw last week moves through. With a 40% chance for any activity, weather that is just a rain shower or a thunderstorm, hopefully we will see heavier rain fall so the ground can get a good drink. Also with this cold front we will see a break in the humidity, as levels are expected to fall. It won’t be drastic, but it will definitely be a good break from the damp air we have had the last couple of days. Besides Monday being the best chance, we should have a great rest of the week!
