Volunteers lend a hand at USDA’s food program distribution in Alamo
ALAMO, Tenn. — The U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Temporary Emergency Food Assistance Program brings free food to West Tennessee.
Volunteers handed out foot to those in need in Alamo on Wednesday.
Every quarter of the year, the Northwest Economic Development Council gives food to those in need of a meal.
After registering by appointment and qualifying, citizens can receive the food through a drive-thru style operation.
The Northwest Tennessee Economic Development Council is a part of the United States Department of Agriculture.
The volunteers gave away about 300 bags of food.

“What we usually do is we actually receive food from our warehouse in Dyersburg, coming from USDA, and we have so many items per quarter,” said Theresa Powell, Crockett County Service Manager for Northwest TN Economic Development Council. “And then we also have volunteers that come and help us pack the boxes for the customers.”
This two-day event is located at 142 Conley Road in Alamo.
