Man pleads to life sentence over death of pregnant woman, unborn baby
JACKSON, Tenn. — A Brownsville man has pled to a life sentence in the death of a pregnant woman and her unborn child.
According to District Attorney General Frederick H. Agee, Jamal Voss, of Brownsville, “agreed to plea to a life sentence plus an additional 10 years for two first degree murders, an attempted murder and aggravated assault” in a Haywood County Circuit Court on Wednesday.
Voss was 17 when he was accused of the murder of Alexis Branch and her unborn daughter, and attempted first-degree murder after Branch’s 8-year-old daughter and another person were injured in the December 2019 shooting.
Agee says when “a defendant pleads there are no appeals, thus the victims and their families do not have to continue to relive this horrific senseless violent act over and over again.”
