2024 Great Backyard Bird event taking place
Bird enthusiasts take part in global bird watching event.
Every February for four days, people from across the globe are invited to take part in a unique event that helps scientists better understand global bird populations. This event also aids scientists in finding ways to protect various bird species.
This year’s event takes place February 16-19 and as always is open to all ages. This bird watching event can be done from anywhere they can be observed.
Participants are simply asked to find their favorite bird watching spot, identify and count the number of birds they observe. They are then asked to report this information to the Great Backyard Bird Count by utilizing the apps eBird or Merlin.
Bird watchers are also asked to submit photos from the event, which will be later displayed at Cornell Lab of Ornithology’s Macaulay Library.
