Memorial celebrating life of teen murder victim held in Jackson
JACKSON, Tenn. — A celebration of life honors a teen gone too soon.
15-year-old Makyla Perry was found shot inside a residence on Hardee Street in Jackson on January 25. Makyla was a student in the Jackson-Madison County School System.
During a memorial event at Jackson Central Merry, Perry’s mother expressed gratitude for the support she’s received.
“I just wanted to thank everybody that came to the balloon release and everybody that genuinely loved my baby and tried to tell her to do right and I just want to thank JCM school for being there for me every step of the way and the friends and family that I do have that are there for me down here,” said Natya Perry, victim’s mother.
Many friends tell us Makyla’s charismatic, fun and loving personality would light up any room.
Perry’s mother took a moment to send a message to the younger generation.
“We weren’t from here but she made a lot of friends down here and I just want to say to all the kids, you know, stay kids, get through with school and worry about everything else later,” said Natya.
Friends, family and peers gathered together to remember Makyla’s life, determined to never forget their cherished and heartfelt memories.
“Y’all just keep me in your prayers and keep my family in your prayers,” said Natya.
Last week, Jackson Police confirmed a 17-year-old male was arrested and charged in connection to the shooting.
