Near Record Highs this Week with Storm Chances, Winter Back Next Week!

WBBJ 7 Forecast Update

WBBJ 7 Forecast Update:

We fell just short of the high temperature record today in Jackson but there will be more chances this week to hit or tie the records on the high side. Cooler weather and a return of winter is coming, but not for several days. A stalled out front will move back and forth this week bringing several chances for showers and storms with it as well. We will have the up and down forecast coming up for you right here.

After last week’s rain, many rivers and creeks are still running high across the Mid South. The Obion river is running the highest in West Tennessee and will remain in minor flood stage for a few days. The water is expected to crest in Obion tonight before slowly dropping as the water heads down stream. If we get more heavy rain in that area this week, the situation could be more serious. But as of now, just some minor flooding is occurring at this time.

THIS WEEK:

We started out the week with back to back 70s for Sunday and Monday in West Tennessee. Temperatures fell just short of the record both days but even warmer weather is expected a couple different times this week before a return to winter looks to be coming next week. A stalled out front will drift back and forth across West Tennessee this week making for some warm days, some cooler days and chances for rain and a few storms in the forecast most days this week.

Monday highs reached the low 70s but a weak front is going to push through late overnight into Tuesday morning. As the front passes, it appears to be a dry front but the humidity will remain high and that could lead to some patchy fog developing during the early morning hours on Tuesday. Monday night lows will only fall down to the mid 50s and Tuesday highs will reach the low 60s. Expect the clouds to return Monday night and stick around for the most part on Tuesday. The winds will change from the southwest tonight to the north on Tuesday as the front moves to the south of us. Tuesday night lows will fall down to around 50°.

The stalled out front will lift back to the north of us on Wednesday allowing temperatures to make it back up into the low 70s. We should fall short of record highs on Wednesday but it will be a warm and humid day. As the front lifts, some showers and a few weak storms are likely to develop along the boundary. It is tough to tell when and who is most likely to see the rain along the front but some showers are expected in the late morning or early afternoon hours. The greatest chance for a storm or two will be in our southern counties. Expect another mostly cloudy day and the winds will move back to the south during the day on Wednesday. Wednesday night lows will only fall down to the mid 60s due to the high humidity.

Thursday will be a warm and humid day with temperatures reaching the mid 70s. The record on Thursday is 74° and could be broken or tied. We are still expecting a mostly cloudy day and there will be some chances for showers and weak storms again depending on how far north the stalled out front makes it. The front will again push through cooling us down a bit on Friday. Thursday night lows will fall back into the upper 40s as the front will move back through by Friday morning. The winds will change again back to the northeast on Friday as most of West Tennessee will be sitting north of the stalled out front. Friday highs will reach the low 60s and there again could be a few showers as the front will lift back through we think Friday evening making for a very warm and humid start to our weekend. Friday night lows will fall down to the upper 50s. The clouds will stick around most of the day on Friday and last into the weekend.

THE WEEKEND:

The warmest weather since the beginning of November could be returning on Saturday and we could be close to setting more high temperature records. The record on Saturday is 77° and that is the current forecast as of now. Highs could hit the 80° mark for some of us on Saturday before a late night front will usher in a return of winter on Sunday that will likely last into most of next week. There will be some showers and storms late on Saturday that will last into the day on Sunday. Some of the storms could be strong but we are not quite sure about the severe weather threat yet but it is something we are going to be watching closely as the week goes on. Expect the clouds to stick around most of the weekend. The winds will come out of the southwest on Saturday but turn back to the north on Sunday behind Saturday night’s cold front. Saturday night lows will drop to the low 40s, Sunday highs will only make it up to around 50° and Sunday night lows will fall all the way down to the low to mid 30s. Winter is coming back next week and we cannot rule out a chance for some ice or snow as well but it is too early to make any forecast with confidence in that as of now.
