Art gallery reception held in Jackson
JACKSON, Tenn. — One event brings out local artists and art enthusiasts Friday evening.
The Ned R. McWherter West Tennessee Cultural Arts Center held an art gallery reception, celebrating two exhibitions. In the upstairs gallery, the Griot Collective of West Tennessee presented “The Poetry of Black Hair: An Exhibition on Beauty and Resistance.”
Meanwhile, the lower gallery featured ‘Upstarts,’ a collegiate student art exhibit displaying works from students across universities in the West Tennessee region.
“I’m excited that I was able to work with former students, former colleagues and also members of the Griot Collective in order to bring this exhibit to the Ned. We’re excited to have Upstarts. There’s displays in both parts of The Ned and so we’re excited about that,” said Shandra Maclin, chair of the exhibit and member of the Griot Collective.
Admission is free. Both exhibitions will be on display throughout the month of February.
