35th Annual African Street Festival continues in Jackson

JACKSON, Tenn.—One local festival happening in Jackson offers something fun for everyone!

The 35th Annual African Street Festival presented by SAACA continues in the Hub City this weekend.

Day two of the event kicked off with several fun activities to take part in.

There was music to enjoy with DJ Tricky Trice, storytelling, an art program, and even the opportunity to try your hand at learning tribal drums.

And the festival was not short of special guests, with appearances from Miss Juneteenth Jackson, Je Delle Ross, the JCM cheerleaders, and a performance from the children’s theatre.

There were tons of vendors on site offering various items for purchase including clothing, jewelry, food items and more.

Also there were multiple organizations offering information on topics like independent living, and other local programs for those interested.

“Normally they would call and ask Pastor Mormon, ‘will you shut it down?’ But we’re not shutting it down, we’re going to set it up because tomorrow is the Gospel Explosion and we’re going to have some great singing that’s going to take place. So we’re going to have church right here on the street and we’re excited just about being a part of this event,” said Rev. Curtis Mormon, Senior Pastor of Mt. Zion Baptist Church.

The African Street Festival winds down Saturday night with a performance from Nashville’s Higher Ground Band at 8:30.

The festival continues with its final day of fun beginning at 11 Sunday morning at the T.R .White Sportsplex.
