Soulful Sunday at the 35th annual African Street Festival
JACKSON, Tenn.—A day filled with worship, great music and lots of good vibes, happens… right here in the Hub City.
Soulful Sunday kicked off at 11 in the morning as part of the final day of the 35th African Street Festival.
The event began with a street church service featuring teachings from Rev. Curtis Mormon of Mt. Zion Baptist Church.
Then at 2 p.m., music filled the afternoon as the main event took place. The Gospel Explosion offered music to enjoy from several artists including Trustory Worship, Donte Everhart, Next Generation Experience, Historic First Baptist Church Choir and others.
The music didn’t end there, festival goers could also enjoy the sounds of reggae music after 4p.m. The event also had vendors set up, along with food trucks to grab a bite to eat.
“We are honored to be the church on the street this year. It’s been over thirty year since the festival has been in effect, so to have this honor is amazing,” said Ida William, Media Chair for Mt. Zion Baptist Church.
“This is such a great opportunity to bring the word of God to the people in the community. We’re just excited we have the opportunity to worship together, sing together, and learn more about God,” said Latrina Morman, member at Mt. Zion Baptist Church.
The fun continues this evening on Hays Street in Jackson with music continuing until after 9p.m. as King Beez is set to take the stage.
The African Street Festival happens every year in Jackson and is presented by The Society for African American Cultural Awareness (SAACA).
