Domestic Violence Awareness Month: The impacts of financial abuse

This Domestic Violence Awareness Month, recent facts & figures shine light on the reality and impact of financial abuse.

According to recent data, financial abuse is the most prevalent but least recognized form of relationship abuse.

In fact, domestic violence is a pervasive issue. 1-in-4 women and 1-in-7 men will experience domestic violence in their lifetime.

This Domestic Violence Awareness Month, the Allstate Foundation is raising awareness and helping people recognize the signs.

“Financial abuse is, and domestic violence in general, really crosses all socieo-economic backgrounds, all regions, all locations, it does not discriminate,” said Sharisse Kimbro, relationship abuse officer with the Allstate Foundation.

Only 3% of people recognize financial abuse as a form of domestic violence, yet it occurs in 99% of abusive relationships.
