USJ basketball standout offers basketball camp

JACKSON, Tenn.—A West TN basketball stand out gives back to the community.

With the help of sponsor Dynamix Physical Therapy of Milan, the Haylen Ayers Basketball Camp took place Sunday morning in Jackson.

The action happened at USJ beginning at 10 a.m. and continued until 1:30 p.m.

Haylen Ayers, a 17-year-old star player and two-time Miss Basketball winner at USJ, headed up the camp for kids in grades 2nd through 8th grade. Haylen, who is also a TSSAA State Champion, ranks as a top prospect for women’s college basketball and even recently secured a deal with New Balance.

Also assisting with the camp were several other star athletes and friends including Tess Darby, Chelby Jordan, Trey Pearson, and Christian Simmons.

The free camp provided those in attendance with fundamental skills like dribbling and shooting, along with off-court skills like teamwork, discipline, and communication.

“It’s an opportunity to get better but in the same aspect it’s to have fun, learn a lot, and grow in many aspects of the game. But. It’s not just about the game it’s about being a human being and learning a lot of lessons off the court as well. I think it’s definitely an opportunity for me to give back to community that’s given me so much, especially when you’re talking about the game because it’s done so much for me and it’s only right for me to do the same.” Ayers said.

The fully booked camp was provided free to those registered.
