Lane College Leading the Charge in Tennessee’s Innovative Future

Jackson, Tennessee – Lane College is proud to commence a transformative partnership with LocalTek, becoming the first HBCU in Tennessee to join this innovative workforce development initiative. Through this collaboration, the College is expanding digital literacy, opening doors to real-world learning, and creating new pathways to credentials that strengthen academic persistence and career readiness.

Through this program, students majoring in Mass Communications and Media Arts, as well as students in the Lane Honors Program, will complete a twelve-week online micro-credentialing course in Digital Marketing or Big Data and Social Justice. Participants received laptops or tablets to support their learning and, upon successful completion, will also receive a fifteen-hundred-dollar grant applied directly to their tuition and fees.

Dr. Lawrence Potter, Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs, shared, “Lane College’s partnership with LocalTek marks a significant milestone as we proudly become the first HBCU to forge this collaboration. This initiative enhances digital literacy, provides experiential learning, and builds pathways for micro-credentialing that support academic persistence and successful career placement.”

Mass Communications major JoNiya Mayes added, “Lane giving us the opportunity to earn credentials that will make a meaningful impact in our lives is wonderful. Having the technology provided ensures that we can fully benefit from the experience.”

Fellow Mass Communications major Deroan Pinder expressed, “I am grateful for the opportunity to expand my knowledge in digital marketing. I believe this will be a valuable asset to my career as I prepare to enter the business workforce after graduation, and it is a great example of how we are becoming the next level of excellence at Lane College.”

By investing in digital skills and credentialing pathways, the College is equipping students to compete confidently in an evolving workforce while advancing its mission to prepare scholars for leadership and service in a global society.
