Hub City councilman, church give back to community with Thanksgiving meal

JACKSON, Tenn. — One local city councilman and church teamed up to spread holiday joy by providing a Thanksgiving meal to community members.

Jackson City Councilman Johnny Dodd and Mt. Moriah Baptist Church collaborated together to provide a Thanksgiving meal to the community.

Dodd and the church started providing this meal because some people do not have the opportunity to have a Thanksgiving dinner.

The meal was provided to everyone in the community including those who are homeless, elderly and disadvantaged. Dodd says he is proud to give back to the community during the holidays.

“I love giving back to the community, it is just apart of my life. {butted} so this is an opportunity give back to the people in the community,” said Councilman Dodd.

Meals from the church were also delivered to several homes across Jackson and they contained famous Thanksgiving dishes.

Pastor Ronald Benton Sr. at Mt. Moriah says it is important to act on service for the community.

“This is the season to be thankful so we try to show it instead of say it with our actions.”

The meal was expected to feed nearly 600 to 700 people. Dodd and the church plan to continue to provide this meal for many years to come.
