JACKSON, Tenn.–Many school districts across west Tennessee have been closed due to weather.
Leaders with Jackson-Madison County Schools are bridging the gap for students to learn while schools remain closed.
school’s been out for seven days and the district shares the community’s concern…
Jackson-Madison County Schools have announced that school will remain closed until next Monday.
According to the district, they have not seen weather related closures like this in years.
Road conditions across the community remain hazardous in many areas, making it inaccessible to both students and staff.
We spoke with public information chief for Jackson-Madison County Schools, Greg Hammond who shared an update on the status of those schools.
“You know we serve all of Madison County in terms of being the public school district for this community, so we know there will be some parts of the county where the road conditions are going to be hazardous for awhile. So yes, our maintenance crews will be on some campuses to answer some of those situations,” said Hammond.
For families concerned about an excess of downtime for kids, there are many things they can do to manage that. We spoke with a teacher at Northeast Middle School and she shared helpful advice for both students and staff.
‘If you have a school-aged child at home, the district gave out wonderful resources, not only for students but for teachers and the employees as well, so there’s a lot of things you can do,” said Carolyn Banks, a teacher at Northeast Middle School.
Jackson-Madison County Schools Superintendent Dr. Marlin King put out a statement encouraging students to participate in ‘I-Ready’ and ‘I-Excel’ with some potential prizes for classes with the highest usage.
Students should be able to return to class, weather permitting, on Monday, February 9.
