Train vs vehicle crash in Obion County

OBION COUNTY, Tenn. — Around 3 a.m. Sunday morning, an Amtrak passenger train traveling along its designated track struck a sedan at a railroad crossing, resulting in the death of an Obion County resident.

Preliminary radio traffic indicates a dog may have been involved in the circumstances leading up to the collision, though this has not been officially confirmed.

Representatives and rail inspectors from Canadian National Railway responded to the scene to assess track conditions and assist with the investigation.

At 6:30 a.m., the scene was cleared and the vehicle had been towed. Canadian National Railway personnel inspected the train and tracks and reported no significant damage.

According to officer radio traffic, a 40-year-old South Fulton resident has died(name will not be shared due to privacy and family respect). Fire and EMS crews transported him to the hospital while continuing life-saving efforts, but were unable to restore a pulse.

Later reports indicate the individual’s dog was also found deceased with the victim.
