Jerry ‘The King’ Lawler Returns to the Ring

HENDERSON, Tenn. – Beloved West Tennessean Jerry ‘The King’ Lawler had a near death experience earlier this fall that nearly took his life in and out of the ring. “My doctor told me if you eat right and exercise for the rest of your life, you’re still going to die. He’s just being a realist,” Lawler joked. Lawler said his return to the ring is an emotional one, but he was excited it could be for such a good cause. Friday night’s Memphis Wrestling event is the eighth event they have hosted with the Carl Perkins Center for the Prevention of Child abuse. A donation of $10,000 was promised to the Carl Perkins Center, nearly 2,000 people attended the event to see Jerry return to the ring. Lawler said he was dead for nearly 20 minutes following his heart attack in September in Canada. He said the whole experience taught him you not to take anything for granted. “You just never know, tomorrow is not promised to anyone as I quickly found out September the 10th.” Lawler said he has his six-month check up for his heart health coming up next week. After that, he is hoping to return to wrestling after he gets the okay.
