Parks department to recommend Nashville stadium’s demolition
NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) – Nashville Metro Parks & Recreation Director Tommy Lynch says his department is recommending the demolition of a 1970s-era, city-owned, former minor league baseball stadium.
Lynch told The Tennessean (http://tnne.ws/1L028yO ) this week that demolishing Herschel Greer Stadium would be a first step toward a range of possible future uses for the property.
The Nashville Sounds baseball team left Greer Stadium in 2014 and moved into First Tennessee Park this spring.
Lynch plans to ask for approximately $800,000 in capital funds next spring in newly elected Mayor Megan Barry’s first budget to tear down the facility, protect the playing field as green space and level land around the ballpark to a usable condition.
Lynch says officials would then reach out for public input to determine the best long-term use of the site.
