Kiwanis Club Names Police Officer And Firefighters Of The Year

JACKSON, Tenn. – The best of the best first responders in Jackson-Madison County were honored Thursday by the Kiwanis Club. Deputy Michael Allen was honored as Deputy of the Year he serves on the Tact Team and works with those with mental illness. “It’s a pretty big deal, I don’t know that I’m necessarily deputy of the year. But I really appreciate the Kiwanis Center honoring us,” said Deputy Michael Allen of the Madison County Sheriff’s Department. Avery McElrath received the city Firefighter of the Year honor. He was recognized for his commitment in every aspect of his job. “I’m really too excited to explain my feelings right now. But I’m happy and I’m glad to be honored,” said Firefighter Avery McElrath of the Jackson Fire Department. Officer John Gause serves on the Gang Enforcement Team and Street Crimes Unit he was honored with the Officer of the Year Award. For their heroics in the deadly fire at Jackson Independent Living in Beech Bluff, earlier this month, Madison County Firefighters Michael Turner, Hoyt Huckabee and Captain Mike Gay, who are all volunteers received the county Firefighter of the Year Honors. The three rushed into the building pulling two people to safety.
