Love Your Block gets new member

JACKSON, Tenn. — A local program got a new member as they expand their work.

The Love Your Block program selected the City of Jackson to receive their grant back in 2021.

The amount of the grant was $100,000, and the program will work to give out mini-grants to residents and community partners to incentivize neighborhood driven change.

The program works to help build up local communities.

Elvia Trejo, the new America Vista, says that in addition to home repairs, they will work on building gardens and getting the community more involved in their program.

Trejo said that they will be focusing on midtown, downtown, and east Jackson. The program only focused on east Jackson last year. Their work included home repairs!

“I am going to be doing outreach, and just continuing the work on our first year vista, Abby. And I am really looking forward to just getting out there with the community. A lot of it is behind the scenes prep. And then, I feel like the most amazing part of it is actually doing of the repairs. Which this year we’re going to have two cycles one in the spring and then one in the fall, as opposed to last year we just had one in the summer,” Trejo said.

Love Your Block is currently looking for volunteers to help with this year’s project.
