Tennessee Education Lottery Educator of the Week: April Greenway
LEXINGTON, Tenn. — April Greenway teaches 3rd grade language arts at South Haven Elementary School and has been in education for eight years.
“We’re always doing activities that kind of interest the kids to try and get them involved, to get them talking and engaged in what we’re doing,” Greenway said.
Greenway said it was her 6th grade teacher who inspired her to become an educator.
“There wasn’t a day that went by, if we were struggling with something, she tried to assist us and help us. She kept us encouraged and wanted us to succeed.”
That is what she now strives to do in her classroom. Greenway says to be a good educator you have to get to know your students one on one. “Year to year, I get to help them realize their potential, watch them become problem solvers and actually get to live through their success.”
Greenway says she wants her students to believe in themselves because if they do, others will believe in them too.
“My favorite part about teaching is working with the future leaders of tomorrow. They teach me so much on a day-to-day basis, just being involved in their life and watching them grow individually.”
Greenway will now be eligible for the statewide Tennessee Education Lottery Educator of the Month Award. Starting in February, vote for her or any of the other nominees at www.seehowitaddsup.com.
