HICKORY VALLEY, Tenn. – Some Hickory Valley residents are upset. They said their section of Mask Road is in rough shape compared to other parts of the same street. “A lot of people have been talking about it,” said Ricky Carter, who lives on the non-paved end of Mask Road. He said he and other residents are ready to see changes from the county’s Highway Department. “They fixed up the street,” said Carter. “But didn’t fix up here and I don’t know why.” Some said they have the answer. A Hardeman County resident who owns property on Mask Road, wrote a letter to to the Highway Department’s superintendent, David Sipes, alleging the choice to fix only a portion of the road was biased. “I would love to pave all of the roads and live with the fact that David Sipes paved all the roads in Hardeman County,” said Sipes. He said the decision to decide which roads to pave first is based on traffic, population, and condition; and due to a cut in the county’s budget, many roads are unable to be fixed.
