LEXINGTON, Tenn.- The old Henderson County Jail will soon take on a new use for first responders. The facility in Lexington has undergone $450,000 in renovations for the past year. It soon will house the county’s emergency management agency administrative offices with three class and training rooms. The facility can be used as a shelter complete with five beds should the local hospital become overwhelmed. The county fire department is located in the old sheriff’s office. “It’s going to provide an ample place and opportunity to have training without people having to rush around and try to find a place to have some training,” said Jim McKee, EMA director Henderson County. Part of the money for the renovation was used to construction a new radio tower in the southern part of the county to improve emergency communications.
