JACKSON, Tenn.- A new study shows we have no reason to worry about driving over or under bridges in the state. Tennessee bridges are some of the best in the country, according to a report from Transportation for America. Tennessee is ranked 8th among the 50 states and has only 5.9 percent of its bridges listed as deficient. The number of deficient bridges in Tennessee is down 3.3 percent from last year. “We want to make it safe maybe if it’s a night before we go home a night so people can rest assured that as they are crossing these structures they are safe,” said Stan Reynolds, a TDOT bridge inspector. The average age of Tennessee bridges is 39 years old and the average age of deficient Tennessee bridges is 53 years old.
