Former high school coach charged with assault
FRANKLIN, Tenn. (AP) – A former coach and her assistant have been charged with assault for having a player throw a ball at a student during a girls’ high school basketball game.
Angie Muir and Chloe Mayo of Franklin, Tenn., were arrested and released Monday on $5,000 bond each for assault and contributing to the delinquency of a minor for what happened during Summitt High’s game Jan. 28.
They allegedly devised the play to target a former teammate heckling a player. Muir allegedly said the student “got what she deserved” when hit in the face. A player told her parents, and school officials reviewed surveillance cameras.
Muir was suspended as a teacher Jan. 29 without pay and told in April she would not be rehired as a coach. Mayo was not a teacher.
