Deep frying your turkey? Check out these tips first
JACKSON, Tenn. — With Thanksgiving coming, here are some turkey frying tips.

Never use a fryer inside or on wood, and don’t cook on uneven ground.
Fry your turkey in flat, open environments, away from tripping hazards.
Be sure the turkey has been thawed and never stuff it.
Never use ice to cool hot oil.
Wear safety goggles and heavy-duty mitts while frying, and always have an all-purpose or grease fire extinguisher near.
“The big thing on cooking, whether it’s in the oven or or if it’s frying the turkey outside, is to monitor it and have somebody available. When we have housefires during Thanksgiving, and this is a big time in the year for housefires, it’s generally because somebody left something unattended,” said Dan Mesenburg, technical training master at ServiceMaster Restore.
Thanksgiving is the peak day for home cooking fires, with more than three times the daily average for such incidents, so staying alert is essential.
