Police Seek Identity of Rape Suspect

JACKSON, Tenn. – Jackson police have released a surveillance photo of a man suspected of raping a woman in mid-August. The photo is of the suspect inside an area liquor store hours before the rape happened. According to investigators, a 35-year-old Jackson woman reported the rape happened on August 14 at around 2:00 a.m. The woman told police that she was riding around north Jackson with a friend. She only knew him as “P”. They were reportedly on Bowling Drive when he got out of his SUV under the pretense of checking his tires. She said he then got a baseball bat from the back of the SUV and threatened to hit her if she didn’t comply with his demands, then raped her. Police said the man was described as a black man in his early to mid 40s. He is about 5′ 9″ in height, 175 to 200 pounds, bald and clean cut. He was driving a tan or gold mid-sized SUV with a spare tire carrier on the back. He possibly lives in Humboldt or Gibson County, and is believed to be a mechanic or does something related to that type of work.
