First rodeo to be held at new McNairy County facility Friday, Saturday

MCNAIRY COUNTY, Tenn. – In McNairy County, a new facility will be the stage of a wild event.

Rockin K Rodeo, the McNairy County Department of Tourism, and the McNairy County Agriculture Event Center present the McNairy County Rockabilly Professional Rodeo on Friday and Saturday.

This is the first event as part of the inauguration of the McNairy County Agricultural Event Center.

“I want to encourage people to come out in our county to be a part of this and see what their county commission and what the leadership of our county has been able to do here in McNairy County,” said McNairy County Mayor Larry Smith.

The event center was built to cater to the needs of the agricultural community, but there are endless opportunities in mind for the future.

“It’s about education for the county. We placed it here on the grounds just above the high school next to the smaller event center that we have so that the students will have the first ability to use this building in any way that it will benefit agriculture-related education and 4-H,” Smith said.

The event center is just under 50,000 square feet. It has a true red dirt floor and can seat nearly 3,000 in the bleachers.

There is also the possibility to lay an alternate floor for other types of events.

Whit Ashe, a rodeo promoter and contestant who has competed across the country, shared their appreciation for the support of the community.

“The local businesses are the reason we are able to bring a professional sporting event to McNairy County,” Ashe said.

Mary Beth Hopper, the Executive Director of the Southwest Tennessee Tourism Association, says this multidimensional facility will benefit the community and bring in revenue.

“Tourism is economic development, and it’s where people come in to spend money in your community, and it saves each household in the county money on their taxes,” Hopper said.

The rodeo is on Friday and Saturday. Tickets are sold at the door for $25.

Doors open at 6 p.m. and the show starts at 8 p.m.
