Rodney Castille catches player of the week honors

JACKSON, Tenn — Entering the game this past Friday, the Liberty Crusaders had a 5-2 record. The South Gibson Hornets had a undefeated record and sat at the top of the region standings.

Rodney Castille and his Crusaders offense didn’t seem to care about what the Hornets had did leading up to that game as they went to work. They scored their first touchdown only one minute into the game and the rest was history. That’s when Castille got rolling. Catching passes left and right and fielding jet sweeps for first downs. He couldn’t be stopped. He finished the first half with two touchdowns, almost three as he was dragged down just short of the end zone. I asked Castille what goes on in his head when he plays a big time game like that and he answered very quickly, “make plays,”  Castille said. On the year he has just under 1,000 receiving yards and 12 touchdowns, but that’s lower than what he anticipated.

“Well after last season I kind of had bigger expectations honestly because I mean I only made it to a thousand last year and I was like well I’m trying to top that this year,” Castille said.

The Crusaders, now 6-2 and Castille have two games remaining and he said he doesn’t care about numbers as long as his team is winning. They play McNairy Central this Friday.
