Studies reveal a five percent pay cut per child for working moms
JACKSON, Tenn. — More than half of working mothers are considering leaving the workforce due to “motherhood penalty.”
There are two components to motherhood penalty.
First, the financial burden of paying for the rising costs of childcare.
Second, the professional impacts.
Pay inequity already exists between the sexes and new studies show that women earn 5% less for every child that they have.
For help, look to your employer for resources or stipends and look to the community for options like boys and girls clubs.
“Stay informed on legislation that’s being looked at now that will give access to parents and funding for various care scenarios,” said Carleen Haylett, CEO of EnrichedHQ.
Haylett also suggests looking into an education savings account and staying informed on state funding options.
