Campers Show Athletic Prowess at Youth Olympics

JACKSON, Tenn.- Hundreds of kids are feeling proud tonight after showing off their athletic skills in a city-wide event. Summer campers from seven locations across the city came together to compete in the 2013 Summer Youth Olympics at Oman Arena. Teams took part in events such as the 50 yard dash, baton relays and the egg race. Organizers said the competition was intense. “During the summer time kids spend their time indoors in front of videos, in front of tv and this gets them up, out and active,” said Sandy MacDiarmid, superintendent of recreation with Jackson Parks and Recreation Department. Winners were given their trophies on podiums during an elaborate awards ceremony complete with music. Afterwards the kids celebrated together.
