Freed-Hardeman University announces Mr. and Miss FHU
HENDERSON, Tenn. — Two students at one local university were chosen to receive some of the schools most prestigious awards.
At Freed-Hardeman University, eight students were recognized as nominees for Mr. and Miss FHU Thursday morning, April 25.
Each year, the faculty nominates a number of students that represent the university in a great way.
The students then vote to narrow down to nominees, and then they vote again to choose the winners.
David Shannon, President of FHU, speaks about this honor.
“To be nominated for Mr. And Miss FHU is so special because the characteristics that are embedded in the mission of Freed-Hardeman University are embodied by the students that are elected or chosen for this honor,” said Shannon.
After their daily chapel service they held a ceremony to introduce the nominees, then they announced the winners.
Miss FHU, Anniston McCall, talked about what a great feeling it was to be voted on by the faculty and staff, as well as her fellow students.
“It’s a huge honor. I would not have expected it. I am very honored to have been chosen by both the faculty and students. It’s a huge deal,” said McCall.
And of course all of these nominees are seniors so they have been here for some time.
Mr. FHU, Will Rawson, tells us a little bit about his time and his experience at Freed-Hardeman University.
“Definitely, as a Christian, I’ve grown. Also, different leadership roles that have been offered to me while I’ve been on campus here I wouldn’t trade for anything. It’s been something that I will use for the rest of my life,” said Rawson.
This is one of the highest honors that you can receive, they’ve been naming a Mr. and Miss FHU since the 1940s.
President Shannon went on to say that all 8 of the nominees have made a positive impact at the school during their time as students.
