Governor Bill Haslam Visits Project That Could Bring Hundreds of Jobs

LAKE COUNTY, Tenn.- Governor Bill Haslam spent part of his day Thursday in far northwest Tennessee visiting the Port of Cates Landing. The port is a $12 million project that could bring hundreds of jobs to the area. “It’s how quick can you get to the customer,” said Governor Haslam, as he took a tour of the site. “This is something we think will help farmers of Tennessee, and get them closer to more markets.” The port has the capability to take materials from their dock to anywhere in the world. “You can literally get from here to Asia in only one lock,” said Governor Haslam. The port is ready for business, and leaders said they are showing it to investors daily. “There are a lot of different scenarios that could come together to put materials across this dock,” said Michael Sanders. Once they find the right fit, officials said hundreds of jobs will be created. The port also just received a $500,000 grant to start building a 5.5 mile rail road that will connect them to tracks that go all over the country.
