Rain And Storms Saturday, Warmer And Drier Sunday
Saturday Morning Update
Good Saturday Everyone…
The month of May was a wet one as we came in at 9.30 inches of rain for the month which was around 2.33 inches more than last year at this time. The normal according the the 30 year average is around 5.58 inches for the month of May. The first day of June has started off wet as well.
We are dealing with the rain for today all courtesy of a near stationary front slowly moving through with an area of low pressure just to our north. Rain will continue off and on until the a cold front passes through later this evening. More rounds of showers and storms will move through for the afternoon and there is a severe threat but it is low.
As of this morning we picked up an inch or more of rain in many locations and rainfall totals will continue to add up through today. Use caution in the lower areas as some minor flooding will occur.
More rain is on the way for the afternoon as another half to around 1 inch of rain will be possible. Storms will be more more intense in the afternoon and contain some cloud to ground lightning and heavy downpours and there is a 1 out of 5 marginal risk for severe storms as well.
Right now it looks like a break in some of the heavy rain by early afternoon with more rounds of storms developing in the mid to late afternoon hours. While the threat of severe weather is low, a couple of strong storms can’t be ruled out. Stay alert this afternoon just in case a severe warning is issued.
On top of the rain we’ve already had this morning, we’ll likely pic up another half to one inch or more in some areas. But the rain should start to wind down towards late evening as a short term break from the rain begins.
A nice break looks to be on tap for Sunday with partly cloudy skies and warmer temperatures. Compared to today’s rain and upper 70’s, we’ll be mostly dry on Sunday with the upper 80’s. More rounds of showers and storms will return Monday into next week so keep it tuned to the WBBJ 7 StormTeam for the latest on the weather.
