New members inducted to the Gibson Co. Hall of Fame

MEDINA, Tenn.—Gibson county makes it official by inducting notable athletes in the area.

The Gibson County Sports Hall of Fame annually recognizes men and women who have made outstanding contributions to Gibson county athletics. Tonight at the Medina Middle School they honor those individuals.

“We will induct, one individual from each school, six schools in the district. We are going to induct four teams. One, two of the teams are 1927, 1928 teams if you can believe that. We’re going back to like the Gibson High School and the Medina High School,” said Sheri Childress, Vice president of Hall of Fame.

This recognition happens annually and this is the 27th year to do this.

“Every school has a committee and people fill out applications and supporting materials. It’s a big deal to get nominated and then to wear one of these pins. I’m a member of the Sports Hall of Fame. I was a graduate of Bradford High School and coached a few years. So it’s a big deal,” Childress said.

Along with the pendant they also receive a plaque, a place in the museum, a picture in the newspaper and of course, a few bragging rights from a moment they can remember for a lifetime.

“It’s a good opportunity to recognize former athletes who have been big contributors to their teams, and to their schools over the years, and it’s just a great time to celebrate them,” said Terry Brown, President of the Hall of Fame.

The Gibson Sports Hall of Fame has been in existence since 1995 and they’re opening up a Hall of Fame Museum that is expected to open by the end of this year. The next banquet will be held in Peabody.

Be on the look out for the Gibson County Sports Hall of Fame Museum that is expected to open at the end of this year.
