McKENZIE, Tenn.- A big boost for the city of McKenzie thanks to a grant from the Tennessee Department of Transportation. Gov. Bill Haslam and TDOT gave city leaders an almost $243,000 grant. The grant will be used for a sidewalk system from Stonewall Street and a section of Brooke Avenue to the central business district. Officials said the project will provide a much needed system to link residents, business owners and visitors to downtown. “This is an opportunity for them to put in a sidwalk that will help children ride to school, walk to school and its part of a great sfaety program as well,” said John Schroer, TDOT commissioner. The grant is made available through a federally funded program formerly known as Transportation Enhancement.
