JACKSON, Tenn.- The Jackson-Madison County School Board invited Madison County commissioners to their work session tonight to talk about new funding for technology. 19 of the 25 commissioners took them up on the offer. The meeting gave commissioners the opportunity to ask questions regarding the recent proposal by the school board to purchase new computers for the system. Commissioners however rejected a plan last month to purchase 2,600 computers at a cost of $900,000. One commissioner said even after the debate over cost, they want the school system and students to succeed. “We just want the plan to be solid and we want them to be successful and I think this is an opportunity for them to be successful,” said Gary Deaton, Madison County Commissioner of District 4 School board members said the proposal now is for 1,800 new computers, with a goal of one new computer for every six students in the school system.
