City wants to settle anti-gay slur lawsuit
NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) – The city administration in Nashville is recommending settlement of a lawsuit over anti-gay graffiti.
The Tennessean (http://tnne.ws/13CUeHL ) reported the Metro Nashville Council has the recommendation from Mayor Karl Dean’s administration to pay $50,000 to city water works employee Les “Bud” Buckner.
He filed suit in May 2012, claiming offensive graffiti directed at him began appearing from the time he was hired more than seven years ago. The lawsuit said the slurs were posted in vehicle bays, the restroom, inside work vehicles used by Metro Water Services and at a fueling station.
Buckner’s lawsuit, under the Tennessee Human Rights Act, claims the city allowed a hostile work environment to persist.
Buckner’s attorney, Phillip Davidson, did not immediately return a message seeking comment.
