HENDERSON, Tenn. – A wreck involving a school bus, which was carrying 42 students, is the center of a controversy in Chester County. “My oldest daughter called me and told me that they had a wreck,” said parent Debra Hutchins. “(She said) that he (the driver) went around a curve too fast and hit the side of a log truck.” School officials said the driver was turning left at the intersection of Harris Road and Cox Road when the crash happened. Nobody was hurt, but parents are upset. “We’ve had multiple instances with this driver,” said parent Nicole Evans. “He’s not a safe driver. I’m against my children riding this bus at any cost.” Chester County Schools Director of Transportation Mike Tignor supports his driver. He said in part, “When you drive so much, you’re going to have minor incidents, but he’s never had a major accident. We feel comfortable with our students riding with this driver.” After this incident, many parents say they have had enough, and they want to see the driver face some sort of repercussions. “I’m ready to draw the line,” said Hutchins. “Something needs to give when it comes to the safety of our children.” “Driving school (or) just something different,” said Evans. “I mean something’s got to be done.” Tennessee Highway Patrol is investigating the incident, and the driver has not been charged with any wrongdoing. School officials said the crash caused around $1000 in damage to the exterior of the bus.
