Benefit softball game to support 12-year-old diagnosed with cancer
DYERSBURG, Tenn. — ‘Putting up points, knocking down cancer!’ That’s the theme of a special upcoming event.
A benefit softball game for Ma’kyleanna Wilkes is set for Saturday, July 27.
The event starts at 9 a.m. at the Dyersburg Activity Center, 12-year-old Ma’kyleanna Wilkes was diagnosed with cancer in April and had surgery in May.
Event organizer, Nichole McKinney, and a group of ladies in the neighborhood have been putting fundraisers together to help the family of 5 out.
They’ve had a bake sale, a carwash and sold t-shirts.
McKinney shares that the community has really stepped up but it doesn’t stop there.
“We have had other communities, surrounding counties with people that have donated and given. When a family is in need, come together because you never know when it could be you or someone in your family that stands in the same spot,” said McKinney.
All the money raised from the event will be given to Wilkes so she can go shopping before school starts back.
