‘Jamz on Jefferson’ brings live music to Haywood County

BROWNSVILLE, Tenn. — One local county takes on day 2 of their weekend long celebration.

Leaders in Brownsville-Haywood County held their ‘Jamz on Jefferson’ event Friday evening.

This is a collaboration across the entire community.

“Every year we a do a series of events starting on Thursday, so yesterday we did our art jams with our children where they came out and painting a canvas as an ode to our 200th bicentennial in the city of Brownsville,” said Sheree Douglas, organizer with the Brownsville-Haywood County Chamber of Commerce.

Douglas shares, with two days under their belt, what the rest of this week has in store.

“Tomorrow these events will continue so we’ll have things on Saturday out at the Delta Heritage Center and then on Sunday we’ll wrap up everything with a Praise in the Park at our amphitheater,” said Douglas.

Jamz on Jefferson is a way to bring attention to this historic area.

“Right now, we are in the historic Jefferson Street District and we’re just tryna bring more awareness to this area and revitalize it so we’re bringing live music,” said Douglas.

Douglas shares more information for how community members can get involved.

“Used to be predominantly with black owned businesses so we are just in a process of revitalizing that–we actually have historic Jefferson Street Association. You can contact me for more information on that initiative to revitalize this area,” said Douglas.

Tricia Lee’s Treats and Cannon Chiropractic were a few of the vendors selling to attendees.

Live music was provided from Jonathan and Company.
