WHITEVILLE, Tenn.—August 2, 2024— CoreCivic celebrated 37 inmates successfully graduating with a High School Equivalency Diploma (HiSET) from the Whiteville Correctional Facility (WCFA) during the 2023-2024 Tennessee Department of Corrections (TDOC) school year, surpassing the facility’s annual goal of 25 graduates.

Mr. Michael Linder, WCFA Instructor Supervisor, addresses the inmates and their guests during the ceremony.

The recent summer graduation ceremony recognized the final cohort of the year at Whiteville, which included 20 of these 37 students who earned their HiSET and 5 Industry Recognized Certificate (IRC) recipients.

Over the past year, WCFA has awarded 217 IRCs, a significant increase of 68 certificates compared to last year at Whiteville.

“Our graduates have demonstrated remarkable dedication and perseverance,” said Michael Linder, WCFA Instructor Supervisor at Whiteville. “We are proud of their accomplishments and are committed to supporting their continued success as they reintegrate into society.”

In addition to the HiSET program, Whiteville offers a variety of academic and vocational training opportunities. These include Adult Basic Education and vocational programs such as Building Trades, Carpentry, Career Exploration, Electrical, HVAC, and Construction Core – designed to equip inmates with valuable skills and qualifications that enhance their opportunities for successful reintegration upon release.

For over 40 years, CoreCivic has been committed to connecting individuals with essential resources and support for a smooth transition post-release, benefiting not only the individuals but also their families and communities.
