McKenzie Residents Cleaning Up Storm Damage

MCKENZIE, Tenn. – McKenzie may have felt the the biggest blow from Wednesday night’s severe weather in West Tennessee. Clean up from the storms continued, Thursday morning. Cedar Street, across from City Hall, was shut down so utility workers could clean up the fallen trees, power lines, and poles in the road. The reported 60 mph wind gusts picked up and tore off an awning at Amy’s Cafe. Owners were thankful the storm did not do any interior damage. Also, a large boot sign at Medlin’s on Highway 79 was knocked over. Residents that witnessed the storm described the violent clouds. “I seen two white clouds looked like a pair of hands, white hands, jerking on it. One on one side, one on the other side, trying to jerk it off the building,” said Don York. The utility department said most of the power was restored in the city and business owners say they are depending on help from insurance for repairs.
