Neighbors React To Woman Shot In West Jackson

JACKSON, Tenn- A 17-year old girl shot in the arm and neighbors watched in shock as she was taken away by ambulance. “She sees a fight and takes off running and is now the victim of a horrible gun shooting,” said Jamila Malik, a neighbor. Gunfire rang out just before 3:30 p.m,, Wednesday. Police said Sadarius Clark, 18, was the one pulling the trigger in the middle of the neighborhood just minutes before a school bus pulled up. Officers believe he had been involved in a fight in the neighborhood about an hour before then returned with a gun. Less than 20 minutes after the 911 call, Clark was arrested. Police said he was hiding in a dumpster at a neighboring apartment complex. Neighbors said Clark is no stranger to the area. “The neighbors that just moved out are the ones that came back and did it,” said Malik. And they said he should have known that kids would be out during the day. “I have grandchildren that play with the children who live at the house,” said Malik. Ron Williamson organized the neighborhood’s block party earlier this month, calling for unity and an end to violence. “In these days and times we need people to know we’re united,” said Williamson. Neighbors said they hope what happened serves as a wake-up call. “It affects everybody not just us,” said Williamson. “It affects all of Jackson.” Police said in July, Clark was charged with unlawful possession of a weapon and was sentenced to 11 months and 29 days in jail; but the sentence was revoked and he was given probation. In light of Wednesday’s shooting, Police are requesting that his probation be revoked.
