Local fire departments, rescue squads honored after receiving grant funding
JACKSON, Tenn. — The Tennessee State Fire Marshal’s Office and the Tennessee Department of Commerce and Insurance gathered at Brooks Shaw’s Old Country Store on Friday.
They honored local volunteer fire departments and rescue squads that applied and were given grant money through the Volunteer Fire Equipment and Training Grant program and Rescue Squad Grant program.
There were 29 total awards given with 8 counties represented.
“They are truly the backbone of community safety in Tennessee and protecting the lives and property of Tennesseans. This program, we hope, will provide the tools that they need to stay safe whenever they are attempting to save the lives and save the property of Tennesseans,” said Kevin Walter, TDCI fire marshal.
Attending state and local officials included Congressman David Kustoff and Congressman Steve Cohen as well as various mayors and representatives.
